Ikoma Shoten Radish Cleansing.

It is said that radish cleanses the mind and spirit of poison. With a view to the upcoming new year, Shoten (Ganesh in the Buddhist pantheon) descends from heaven and eats radish to eradicate the years poison.

Spring Events

Hozanji Temple Rope Talisman Offering.

At the beginning of November, Hozanji Temple Youth Group prepare the large rope talisman and lay it in the main hall as an offering. The offering is concluded on December 16th with the rope being hung on the large temple gate and the chanting of the sutra "purification of the six roots of perception."

Spring Events

Hozanji Temple Shoten Greeting Ceremony.

At 3am, the first memorial service of the new year is held with a new years greeting to the Gods of the mountain, including Acala and Shoten, prayers for the safety of worshipers, the prosperity of the temple and the rise of Buddhism.

Hozanji Temple New Years Prayer Meeting.

The temples chief priest conducts special prayers for the new year and prayers for peace.
